THESSALY. Magnetes. Elagabalus, 218-222. Triassarion (Bronze, 22 mm, 8.62 g, 2 h). AY K MAYP ANTΩNINOC Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Elagabalus to right. Rev. The centaur Chiron was the wisest and most just of all the Centaurs. He was especially knowledgeable about medicine, and is credited with the discovery of both botany and pharmacy. He tutored many Greek heroes, including Jason, Achilles, Theseus and Herakles. He lived on Mt. Pelion in southeastern Thessaly abutting the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Seae , andas highly venerated amongst the Magnesians, who featured him predominantly on their coinage.
